The seventh grade Family and Consumer Sciences course consists of a variety of aspects of the Family and Consumer Sciences field. The Decisons unit includes an emphasis on decision-making, teamwork, time management, money management, and clothing care with an emphasis on laundry. The Welcome to the Kitchen unit focuses on food preparation through proper sanitation, food safety, measuring skills, kitchen safety, and kitchen equipment information. The course’s Nutrition unit evaluates the characteristics of a healthy diet by looking at each student’s personal dietary guidelines, the six essential nutrients, how food labels can be used to make wise food decisions and how food choices can have positive or negative effects on a person’s health. Child Development unit acquisition lessons include the stages and areas of child development, the care giving of children, and child health and safety.
